The comedian reminded CNN of a difficult episode of the past Tuesday night when he was given a shot by New Year's Eve hosts Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen.
“No. No, I don't know. The last Black man to drink on this network was fired,” said Roy Wood Jr., known for his “Daily Show”. “I'll keep it with water for now. I need stability.”
It appears that Wood was referring to former host Don Lemon, who was part of the network's New Year's dinner special when he ran and drank during the defense. Fellow Times Square guests, Michael Ian Black and Amber Ruffin did not refuse the offer to shoot, however.
Wood hosts CNN's weekly Saturday night comedy quiz show, “Have I Got News For You,” along with Black and Ruffin.

Lemon was fired by CNN in 2023 after a series of controversies and problems with the newly launched AM program “CNN This Morning.”
The left-handed receiver was bumped from his starting spot to be part of a three-person receiver team on Chris Licht's revamped morning show, but the show didn't go off the air.
Lemon angered her colleagues in 2023 when she suggested Nikki Haley, then 51, he was no longer “in his time”.. At the time, Haley was outspoken about age problems for President Biden, who was forced out of the race a year later by members of his own party.
Lemon lasted two more months before Licht dumped her. Licht himself was shown the door in June of that year.
Lemon is freshly made headlines with his scathing attack on Donald Trump supporters amid division among his center's position on H-1B visas.

“You got elected because you're in a f—ing organization and you don't realize it because you have a stupid MAGA brain and you don't get it,” he said. “How stupid and dumb are you?”
He stood by his views on his YouTube show on Tuesday, calling his critics “butthurt”.
“I'm not talking about all Trump supporters,” Lemon said. “I'm talking to MAGA people who will speak up and do anything to stand up for any behavior that Donald Trump does, any bad behavior that the MAGA movement does. .”
He continued, “Yeah, I stand by my words! And if you don't like what I said, then f— I'm bad, I don't care!”
Lemon also called out the “hypocrisy” of Trump supporters who attack him for his speech while defending their “religious leader.”
“This is how messed up you are. You have higher expectations of me, a freelance journalist, a former cable news anchor, than someone sitting in the Oval Office. Because the mouth “His is worse than mine,” Lemon said.
Lemon also attacked Time Magazine last month for choosing Trump as such Person of the Yearcalling the election “a joke.”

“If they wanted to make somebody Person of the Year, I don't know, they could have done it with anybody. They could have done it with somebody who actually represents democracy, who represents democracy within country.” Lemon said.
