One person may have been on “Santa's good list” after dropping a special amount into the Salvation Army's donation kettle on Christmas Eve.
Local Salvation Army workers in Washington, Pennsylvania, were collecting donations with their red Kettles in front of a Giant Eagle grocery store.
A generous donor tossed a gold coin wrapped in a dollar bill wrapped in a slip of paper stating that he wanted to remain anonymous.

A Salvation Army spokesperson told Fox News Digital that the coin was stamped Queen Elizabeth II portrait and is worth more than $2,700.

“Increased foot traffic during the holidays is important to The Red Kettle's campaign,” said a spokesperson.
The Red Kettles raised $2.7 million each day time off.
“In fact, in a typical year, about half of the donations The Salvation Army receives (including donations to Red Kettles) come from October through December,” the spokesperson added.

David Zanca, senior portfolio manager at Louisiana-based Blanchard & Co, an American investment firm that specializes in rare coins, told Fox News Digital that the coin is one ounce, Canadian gold maple leaf.
“Canadian maple gold coins are very popular with investors as a way to buy gold bullion. Gold bullion coins are very valuable for their gold content,” said Zanca.

The coin is dated 1987 with an engraved inscription.
“Assuming that someone bought the coin in 1987, they would have paid the average price that year of $520. That's a difference of more than 500% from the value of 1987,” said Zanca, adding that a “huge” donation for the Salvation Army.

“One of the attractive features of gold coins is that they can be gifted/given privately,” said Zanca.
“God bless the person who chose to give the gold coin Salvation Army not just because of the size of the donation. But, because it calls us now, at the beginning of the new year, to focus and communicate kindly,” he added.

This is not the first time the Salvation Army has found a gold coin in one of its kettles, as four years ago the organization struck gold across the US.
Two South African Krugerrands were awarded in the Naples, Californiaand Canton, Michigan.

In Farming Hills, Michigan, two independent coins were cast along with a 10-ruble coin.
A gold coin worth $3,000 was found in a kettle in Monmouth, Oregon.
“Funds from the coin will go back into the local community to help provide essential community services to individuals and families through 2025,” said a Salvation Army spokesperson.
