A strong earthquake hits the middle myanmar, shakes buildings in Thailand


A strong earthquake with a length of 7.7 gorge shook on Friday Thailand and neighboring Myanmar, attracting a skyscraper under the construction of Bangkok and overthrow buildings in Mandalay.

The epicenter was about 17.2 kilometers from the city of Mandalay, which has about 1.5 million people.

The government run by Myanmar army announced a state of emergency in six regions.

Two eyewitnesses from the city of Tangnoo in the myanmaru region Bago told Reuters that at least three people died after a partially collapsed mosque.

“We spoke prayers when trembling began … Three died on the spot,” said one of the people who talked to Reuters.

An officer from the fire brigade department Myanmar said Reuters: “We started a search and we met Yangon to check the losses and damage. We don't have information yet.”

Posts in social media from Mandalay, the ancient royal capital Myanmy, which is located in the center of her Buddhist heart, showed the fallen buildings and debris scattered on the streets of the city. Reuters could not immediately verify the posts.

One witness in the city said Reuters: “We all ran out of the house when everything began to shake. I witnessed the fall of a five -story building on my eyes. Everyone in my city is on the road and no one would dare to go back to buildings.”

Another witness in the city, Htet Naing Oo, told Reuters that the tea store fell with several trapped inside. “We couldn't come in,” she said. “The situation is very bad.”

The third witness said that the mosque in the city was seriously damaged.

The Chinese Information Agency Xinhua said that the strong trembling was felt in the south -western province of Yunnan, which borders with Burma, but there were no reports about the victims.

Witnesses contacted Yangon, said that many people ran out of buildings in the city, the largest in the country.

Meanwhile, witnesses in Bangkok said that one office tower in the city center was swaying from side to side for at least two minutes, with doors and windows loudly.

Hundreds of employees made up via emergency stairs, when some shocked and panicked employees froze. Loud screams could be heard when the building was still swaying.

Outside, hundreds gathered in the afternoon sun, while employees with medical sets found office chairs for the elderly and people in shock.
