A quick primer on MagSafe
Most of the wireless chargers in this guide do MagSafe wireless charger or Qi certification2. That means they take advantage of the magnets attached to the back of the iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14, iPhone 15And iPhone 16 series. I cannot emphasize this enough: If you buy a case, make sure it's a case MagSafe Case. We have several third-party options in the case guide linked above. A regular iPhone case will weaken the magnet's attraction in the device and will not stick to MagSafe accessories.
What is the purpose of MagSafe? You don't have to worry about the wireless charger getting misaligned, meaning you won't wake up to a dead iPhone. Technically, this perfect alignment means the charger can deliver faster 15-watt charging, but Apple has limited this benefit to select products from certain brands. MagSafe is also available in the AirPods charging case (subject to availability). on your model). Apple's AirPods and AirPods Pro with wireless charging case will work with nearly all standard Qi wireless charging pads on these chargers (and will also many third-party wireless headsets), but if you have AirPods with MagSafe, you can also connect it to the magnetic mount. If you don't have a MagSafe iPhone, your device won't be able to attach to these chargers, although we have some recommendations for older iPhones (and iPhone SE).
What are Standby Mode and Bedside Mode?
You'll see us cover two specific modes throughout this guide: StandBy mode and Nightstand mode. What are they?
Standby mode was introduced in iOS 17. When you place your iPhone on the charger in landscape orientation, it turns the screen into a kind of dock, displaying a clock (with different designs you can choose from), photos from the gallery or widgets. If you have an iPhone that supports an always-on display, you can choose to have the screen turn off automatically after a period of time when the iPhone is not in use or if the room is dark. Go Settings > Standby mode to customize it.
Bedside mode has been available for a long time on Apple Watch. Basically, when the watch is in an upright position and charging, the watch face lights up so you can always tell the time. You can customize this on your Apple Watch by going to Settings > General settings > Bedside mode.
