Apple is developing a doorbell that unlocks with your face, according to a report


Move over, ring: Apple is reportedly working on a smart doorbell — a doorbell that unlocks for household members it recognizes.

Apple's doorbell would feature advanced facial recognition technology that connects wirelessly to the lock, according to Bloomberg report. The doorbell would unlock the door for people it recognizes, working much like Face ID does iPhone. The product is not expected to launch until late 2025 at the earliest.

The report aligns with Apple's broader vision to deepen its footprint in the smart home market, where it has historically lagged behind rivals like Google and Amazon.

The company did not respond to a request for comment.

While there are already smart locks using facial recognition market, Apple may have a competitive advantage in this space due to its strong commitment to user privacy, which could potentially make consumers more comfortable accepting Apple services and devices in and around their homes.

Apple is also developing an home security camera to rival products such as Google's Nest and Amazon's Ring, Bloomberg added. The camera is expected to be integrated with Apple's smart home hub speculatesdesigned to control connected devices in the household.

The move to the security camera market could also drive adoption of iCloud subscriptions, where video footage from these devices will be stored, according to the report.
