Tech giant Apple On Thursday, it agreed to pay $95 million to settle a class-action lawsuit alleging that its Siri voice assistant violated users' privacy.
A Initial settlement It was filed Tuesday night in a federal court in Oakland, California, subject to approval by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey White.
The mobile device owners who filed the lawsuit alleged that Apple routinely recorded private conversations after Siri was inadvertently activated. Those conversations were then disclosed to third parties, including advertisers who served some users with ads tailored to their conversations, the lawsuit added.
Voice assistants like Siri can be opened in response to certain verbal prompts that include “hot words” such as “Hey, Siri.”
Apple has foldable and thinner iPhone models in the pipeline.

Two of the plaintiffs claimed that their mention of Air Jordan sports shoes And Olive Garden restaurants had gotten them to receive targeted advertising for those products.
Another plaintiff claimed she received an advertisement for a brand-name surgical treatment after discussing it in private with her doctor.

Class members, estimated to number in the tens of millions, may receive up to $20 for each Siri-enabled device they own, such as iPhone and Apple Watch. The class period runs from September 17, 2014 to December 31, 2024 and began when Siri introduced the “Hey, Siri” feature.

In agreeing to the settlement, Apple denied wrongdoing.
The $95 million settlement is about nine hours of profit for Apple, which had net income of about $93.74 billion in its most recent fiscal year.
The attorneys are awarded up to $28.5 million in fees, plus $1.1 million in costs, from the settlement fund.

A similar lawsuit is ongoing on behalf of users Google voice assistant in a federal court in San Jose that is part of the same Oakland court district that is hearing the Apple case. The plaintiffs in the Google case are represented by the same companies that were in the Apple case.
