Argentineian President Javier Miley has denied promoting a newly created cryptocurrency, which collapsed shortly after mentioning it in a social media publication on Friday.
Cryptocoin $ Libra was rapidly rising before wearing, causing serious losses for the bigger part of the people who invested in it.
A judge will now determine whether the president should be filed against fraud charges for the incident.
On Monday, Miley said he acted “in good faith” and rejected investor complaints, comparing their actions with the people who bet: “If you go to a casino and lose money, what do you have to complain when you knew the risks?”
President Miley talks about the $ Libra incident in an interview with Argentine TV channel Todo Noticias on Monday, after a weekend, during which he remained unusually quiet on social media.
He insisted that his post in X, which contains a link to $ Libra, is not approval.
“I didn't promote it, I just shared it,” he told Johnny Viale to Todo Notesis.
Miley's post, which he wiped in just a few hours, sparked heavy criticism not only from his political rivals in Argentina, but also by those who invested in cryptocurrency.
Some claim that the start of $ Libra resembles “pulling a carpet” – where promoters are attracted to buyers just to stop commercial activities and deal with the money raised from sales.
The presidential service insisted that Miley was in no way involved in the development of $ Libra and announced that the anti -corruption service would determine whether the president had acted incorrectly.
Miley himself defended her erasure of her post, saying that at a time when he did not know “the details of the project and after learning about it, I decided not to continue to promote it.”
However, opposition politicians are not stated by statements that threaten to start impeachment proceedings against Miley.
While political analysts say that the opposition is unlikely to receive the votes needed for an impeachment test to move forward, the scandal threatens to divert Miley's attention from his radical reform program.
A federal judge has the task of deciding whether the allegations of fraud against the president by a number of plaintiffs must move on.
In her television interview, Miley appeared combat, emphasizing that there was nothing to hide.
He also said that those who invested in $ Libra had done it “voluntarily” and knew about the risks.
“It's like playing Russian roulette and getting the bullet.”
