Dolton, Illinois “super mayor” and Thornton Township manager Tiffany Henyard compares to many historical figures during the fight to save power.
In the City of Thornton in Illinois, the ongoing insurance dispute between manager Henyard and local board members Carmen Carlisle and Chris Gonzalez has become a government shutdown. As a result, many services are not available due to the lack of credit insurance, including access to debt settlement among the closed government.
ABC7 reported that the crux of the dispute is that the two directors “say they are withdrawing to prevent Henyard from appointing a trustee who destroys ties.”
“Our hesitation is that if there's somebody out there who's going to believe everything, it's going to set us back,” Carlisle said.

When Henyard was asked in an interview with local news agency whether he would really have the power to appoint such a person, he disputed the guardians' claims.
“I don't know. I don't have the power to pick anybody,” Henyard said. “You're not going to say, 'Hey, it's being ignored.' You have neglected your duties as an elected official.”
This place is rocking from a controversial democratic committee where State Sen. Napoleon Harris replaced Henyard at the top of the ticket.

Henyard responded to the shakeup by announce, “We didn't have a chance to be heard,” and that “On December 3, 2024, your right to vote was hijacked by your committee, Sen. Napoleon Harris.”
Harris disputed the report when speaking to ABC7.
He said: “No one was denied entry, everything was done above. “We need to respect the rule of law.”

Henyard disputed the shakeup again by issuing a similar news release, “It's history. It's 21st Century History,” Henyard said. “I am your Rosa Parks, your Harriet Tubmans. (sic) I am that person. Someone has to say never, never give up.”
The city's shutdown is affecting local residents like Tom Olejniczak, who showed up early Wednesday morning to hand out paperwork for the aid program.
