We may not be on top anymore tiny home hobbybut the idea of an economical, efficiently built home that can be placed almost anywhere is still attractive. Today at CESI was able to check out the 2025 Pro microhome model from California-based Haus.me. It was shiny, luxuriously furnished and, to be honest, not as expensive as I thought it would be.
The 120-square-foot apartment's interior features wood, glass, and soft neutral tones. It's like taking a shipping container and replacing the hard lines and corrugated steel with rounded corners and floor-to-ceiling windows. Surfaces are shiny, and every part of the space is maximized with Ikea-like small-space efficiencies, like the queen-size Murphy bed that folds down to create a table and two benches. The kitchen has a small refrigerator, microwave, a full set of Villeroy & Boch cookware, and the bathroom has a full-size shower.
The devices can actually move almost anywhere without requiring any site preparation – as long as the ground is level, it will work. The Microhouse Pro is also climate independent and can be installed in snowy forests, hot deserts, and temperate climate beaches (though hot and cold climate packages cost an additional $10 or so each). It also meets California fire and CAT-5 hurricane codes.
Installation usually takes less than an hour and doesn't require any special connections—all you need is a garden hose and an extension cord. And thanks to its size, it does not exceed the size threshold that requires permission. The included 3.6 kWh battery can power your entire home for four days. formation of atmospheric water and battery life is four days. Drinking water is filtered by reverse osmosis, and the waste disposal system “melts” everything into a liquid that can be drained through a pull-out pipe that can be connected to a septic tank or holding tank.
The Pro model also offers high-end features like voice control via an Apple HomePod attached to the wall. During my tour, Max Gerbut, CEO of Haus.me, asked Siri to lower the curtains, and she complied. You also get a full set, dishes, towels, etc. – I even saw a drawer full of M&Ms in the kitchen and was sure you'd get those too.
The Pro model is a more luxurious and rugged version designed for Airbnb and rental use and costs $89.99. If you don't need the smart home features, battery backup, and included cookware, you can get the microhaus Lite for $59,990. There is also a $35,000 version that only includes the HVAC, lighting, wiring, plumbing and fixtures.
One thing that none of the micro home models include is solar generation. To do this, you will need to upgrade to 400 and 800 square foot apartments. They offer the same usability but are completely self-contained and cost $199,000 and $299,000 respectively. Please note that none of the prices include delivery.
It's true—none of these prices are small numbers. But I helped build yurts, tiny houses and barns. I've lived in several hand-built homes and considered many other modular prefab options. In comparison, these prices are not very high, especially when you consider that there is virtually no site preparation, installation, or contractor required.
