Barcelona gave Real Madrid the latest El Clasico in the Supercopa final | Football News

Barcelona they beat their rivals Real Madrid 5-2 in the final Spanish Super Cup Clasico in Saudi Arabia on Sunday to win the first trophy of the Hansi Flick era.

Kylian Mbappe put Madrid ahead, but Barcelona giants hit five in reply before their striker Wojciech Szczesny was sent off in the second half.

Madrid were hoping to avenge their 4-0 defeat by Barcelona in October's LaLiga Clasico but were instead battered and bruised by their hosts in Jeddah.

After Mbappe's opener, Lamine Yamal headed in and Robert Lewandowski sent Barcelona ahead from the penalty spot, while Raphinha scored twice and Alejandro Balde was also on target.

Rodrygo Goes pulled one back for Madrid with a free-kick but they were unable to extend their chances in a humiliating defeat to the European champions.

“It has been very good, it was last season when we won the cup. It's always special and, above all, in the Clasico against Real Madrid,” Barcelona defender Jules Kounde told Movistar.

“We were calm and composed, knowing that if we followed the plan we would win.”

“I'm proud and happy with the team… as soon as they got the red card, we met and said we're going to struggle, to be quiet, but we had a big chance and that can't escape us.”

'Bad defending' cost Real Madrid the game

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has said that his team's poor defense is the main reason for their defeat.

“We defended badly and it cost us the game – they scored their goals easily,” Ancelotti told Movistar.

“We are sad, like all our fans, it's disappointing, and we don't have to hide this… we have to look forward, there's nothing else we can do.”

Both coaches chose to stick with the same lineup they started with in the semifinals.

Yamal gave Madrid an early warning with an effort on the right which forced Thibaut Courtois to make a good save.

The Belgian goalkeeper also made a powerful stop to give Raphinha the lead after the Brazilian had easily eluded Lucas Vazquez.

Despite Barcelona's opening salvo, it was Real Madrid who took the lead in the fifth minute with Mbappe's powerful strike.

The French international, frustrated several times by flagging in the league defeat by the Catalans, was lost in midfield after Vinicius won the ball and, bursting into the area, slotted past Szczesny.

Barcelona have come back from a goal down

It took a stunning goal from 17-year-old Yamal to level the score, the Spanish winger cutting in from the right before reaching the bottom of the near post in the same vein as Barca veteran Lionel Messi. they are often compared.

Barcelona continued to push and through Lewandowski's penalty Eduardo Camavinga arrived late and beat Gavi carelessly.

Raphinha soon added Barcelona's third with Kounde's header from the floor, and he grabbed a fourth before the break.

Yamal and Raphinha combined and the latter slipped to Balde, who slotted past Courtois.

Barcelona continued to do so after the break and Raphinha scored the fifth with a fine finish after Marc Casado played him in.

The Catalans were reduced to 10 men when Mbappe went in at the other end, rounding midfielder Szczesny, who brought him down outside the area and the VAR review was ruled out.

Rodrygo, who hit the post, fired past Szczesny's substitute Inaki Pena.

Bellingham and Mbappe leave Real Madrid inquiries

Mbappe charged Jude Bellingham but the England international was denied by Kounde's big challenge in stoppage time.

The Frenchman also came close to shooting himself in a fine display but Pena parried his effort away.

“He was a very good player (Madrid player),” said Ancelotti, noting the transformation Mbappe has undergone at the club, after leaving Paris Saint-Germain.

Barcelona brought in midfielder Dani Olmo for his first appearance since signing for the club on a temporary basis, a situation that was particularly difficult at the weekend.

However, their five-star display provided many more points as Barca won their 15th Spanish Super Cup.
