“The Patriots situation, honestly, I don't have much of an opinion on that,” Belichick told McAfee and his staff. “Robert Kraft, Jonathan Kraft, Robyn Glaser, they are the decision makers there.
“Mayo has been hand-picked by Robert, but ultimately, the decision-making is something they will have to give their opinion on.
“I don't really know how to go outside to look inside. They haven't even called me and asked, so I don't know.”

But Kraft took the blame Monday when he spoke to reporters about Mayo, saying “the whole situation is on me” for his decision to leave Mayo after just one season.
“I feel bad for Jerod, because I put him in an impossible situation,” Kraft added. “I know he has all the tools as a head coach to be successful in this league. He needed more time before taking the job.
“Ultimately, I'm a fan of this team first, and now I have to go out and find a coach that can get us back to the playoffs and hopefully take home a championship.”
