If you want to see the original source code that started MicrosoftBill Gates now shares it. On Wednesday, Microsoft's co-founder announced it on his Notes on Gates blog, reminiscent of the company's early days for Its 50th anniversary. Gates has written a lot of code in those five decades, but he has called this “coolest code I've written so far”.
Sharing a photo of himself having a huge pile of paper depicting the code, Gates wrote that he was inspired by a copy of January 1975 to the popular electronics magazine. The magazine had a cover photo of the Altair 8800, an important personal computer created by a small company called Mits.
19-year-old Gates and his Harvard Paul Paul Allen brought Altair's creators and told them they had a version of the programming language primary for the chip that led Altair 8800. Such software would allow people to program Altair.
“There was only one problem,” Gates wrote. “We don't.”

Gates said he and his friends “coded day and night in two months to create the software we said was already existing.” Gates and Allen then presented the code of the MITS president, which agreed to licenses the software. “Altair Basic has become the first product of our new company, which we have decided to call micro-soft,” Gates wrote. “Later we missed the hyphen.”
