Bluesky has rolled out an update this eliminates one important issue that may lead to impersonation in a decentralized social network. Now that you have verified your identity on the platform using your own domain, Bluesky will no longer release your old .bsky.social username. Previously, going through the authentication process made your original .bsky.social name available again, which meant you'd have to register again to protect your old handle unless you wanted swindlers to steal it.
The social network is trying to fix verification issues that became a serious problem after the service ended. the influx of new users is welcomed in recent months. A third-party organization from Cornell Tech, which previously analyzed the app's user base, found that 44 percent of Bluesky's 100 most popular accounts had a doppelgänger. In response to Bluesky adopted more aggressive impersonation policy and in late November required parody, satirical or fan accounts to mark themselves as such in both their handles and bios. It also explicitly prohibited identity switching, in which users start out as impostors to attract followers and then later change their identity to avoid enforcement action.
In addition to keeping your old name, the updated Bluesky app adds a Mentions tab to your notifications, making it much easier to find replies to your messages. How Edge Notes, it also has a new button that lets you choose how replies are displayed, so you can view them in linear order or in threaded discussions.
