The Internet has been on fire ever since Larsen & Toubro (L&T) chairman SN Subrahmanyan's proposal for a 90-hour work week in an internal meeting with employees went viral. Veteran investor Vijay Kedia has also weighed in on the 90-hour week debate.
According to Kedia, it can be very beneficial for employees to log into longer work weeks of 90 hours. wait what? Kedia X (formerly Twitter) said in a sarcastic post that it would be useful for bosses. He also mentioned in his note that if the employees work hard, the boss will be able to buy another Lamborghini next year.
“A heartwarming moment in the office today: our boss brought a Lamborghini. We gathered to congratulate him, and his words really inspired us: 'Thank you for all these achievements. It couldn't have been done without you. Your relentless 90-hour Lamborghini today, I thank you all. I promise….if you keep working hard, I'll buy another one next year!' “
L&T chairman Subramanian recently went viral on social media in a controversy over work-life balance (or lack thereof). The L&T boss suggested that employees should work 90 hours a week and even went so far as to advise them to work on Sundays.
He further questioned what the workers were doing at home. “What are you doing sitting at home? How long can you look at your wife? How long can wives look at their husbands? Go to the office and start working.”
Not just Vijay Kedia, Subrahmanyan also got Shaadi.com founder and Shark Tank India judge Anupam Mittal to give a tongue-in-cheek reply to the L&T chief's outrageous proposal.
“But how can we be the most populous country in the world if husband and wife don't look out for each other?” Mittal wrote in X.
While speaking at the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2025, industry leader Anand Mahindra is a big votary of quality of work over quantity of work. He said, “You can change the world in 10 hours.” Mahindra said productivity and innovation come from effective use of time instead of long working hours.
