Senior diplomats from the BRICS countries will meet on Monday in Brazil to present ahead of threats emerging from the business policies of American President Donald Trump.
The conference comes at an important time for the global economy after the international financial fund this week diminishes the prediction of growth on the impact of the new American Leader's tariff.
Diplomats from a trade bloc that includes current President Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa will meet for two days in Rio de Janeiro, as a precursor to the leaders' meeting in July.
“Ministers are discussing a statement aimed at confirming the validity and importance of the international trade system,” Brazilian Brazilian representative Mauricio Lyriro told reporters on Saturday.
The group has increased dramatically since its inception in 2009 – and now include Iran, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates. It makes about half the world's population and 39% of GDP.
Trump since returning to the White House in January has hit several countries with a 10% blanket, but China faces a tariff of up to 145% for most goods. Beijing has responded with 125 percent responsibilities for American products.
Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira will host the summit which will be attended by Russian Sergei Lavrov and China's Wang Yi among others.
It is scheduled to start around 11:00 am when (1400 GMT) with expected information during the day.
Climate change is expected to show up on the agenda ahead of the United Nations Climate Summit in November held by Brazil in the Amazonian city of Belem.
The group could also discuss the war in Ukraine, as Trump seeks to push Russia and Ukraine towards a peace agreement.
BRICS will join in talks on Tuesday with nine other “partner” countries, as well as several former Soviet states, with Cuba, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda and Nigeria.
