CES 2025: New laptops, gaming PCs from Asus, Dell, Lenovo and HP
CNET got an early look at some of the biggest computer product announcements at CES 2025 in Las Vegas.
CES is here, and Dell, Lenovo, Asus, and HP all made announcements at the Big Electronics Show in Las Vegas, but ahead of the show, we got a few sneak peeks in New York of their laptops and desktops coming in 2025, and that includes their brands for games. Well, let's take a look at what's next from them. Before I jump in, keep in mind that we saw all of this before CES even started, so there's a good chance that these PC makers and others have announcements at the show that we just didn't see. Also, none of these are in-depth looks, and pricing and availability weren't specific, but we wanted to give you a preview of what's coming this year. So I'm just going to kick things off with Dell, and oddly enough, the biggest announcement from it isn't a product, it's a name change. Dell abandons PC line names. Like XPS Insperon, Latitude and Precision, all for simple and clear Dell names for consumer models, Dell Pro for commercial productivity and Dell Pro Max for commercial systems and high-performance workstations. And in them there are plus and premium models. So, for example, if you're familiar with Dell's top-of-the-line XPS line, the 14-inch laptop in that line will now be called the Dell 14 Premium. You can extrapolate. From there, Dell announced some new Pro and Pro Max business laptops and a couple of updated Insperons now simply called Dell or Dell Plus, which will be arriving over the next few months. On the Alienware side, it's a bit more exciting. It's also changing its PC name, returning to the Area 51 brand with a new full-size tower with the latest Nvidia graphics and up to the Intel Core Ultra 9 285. KCPU and 16-inch and 18-inch laptops, and again these will have the latest graphics Nvidia and up to the Intel Core Ultra 9 275 HX processor. Look for them to launch sometime in the first quarter. Moving on to Lenovo, for the most part PC announcements are simple refreshes. For example, Lenovo's dual-screen Yoga Book 9 I laptop now has larger 14-inch OLED displays than 13.3 inches and a sturdier kickstand to support it, and the latest Intel Core Ultra 7 processor. The premium Yoga 9 I 2 and 1 also get a processor refresh and it's an aura edition, which basically means it's AIPC and has smarter software and access to premium support. Then there's the new Yoga Slim 9 I, a 14-inch premium laptop with a shiny new glass finish on the lid and like the other two cases. Latest Core Ultra Chips. Lenovo also announced 4 new tablets starting with the 10-inch general-purpose Lenovo Tab. Then there's the higher-end 12.7-inch Idea Tab Pro that gives you a more premium entertainment and productivity experience, alongside the more creative 12.7-inch Yoga Tab Plus. Rounding out the tablets is the Legion Tab, an 8.8-inch tablet with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, 12 gigs of memory, 256 gigs of storage, all built around an 8.8-inch 2.5k display with a 165Hz refresh rate. . There's also a new Legion gaming laptop, the Legion Pro 7i, a 16-incher with Intel Core Ultra 9, NextGen Nvidia graphics, and some pretty nice lighting around the rear vents in front. Next up is HP and some new AI PCs for both consumers and. Business We'll just focus on consumer-level PCs in this video like the HP Omni Studio X all-in-one desktop and new Omni desktop towers. HP has made some great ones in the past and this OmniStudio X looks set to continue that streak. It is available in 27 and 31.5 inch sizes and has Intel Core ultraprocessors, up to 32 gigabytes of memory and Intel Art graphics. The new omni desk towers have a nice wood finish on the front so they look a bit more like furniture and offer lots of configuration options including discrete and video graphics. For gaming, there is the new Oman Max 16 laptop and it has up to AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 375 or Intel Core Ultra 9275 HX processor. NextGen video graphics, 64 gigabytes of memory and 2 terabytes of space. There are 3 display options including a 2.5K OLED with a variable refresh rate of 48 to 240 Hz. HP also showed off a 16L Oman compact gaming tower with Intel or AMD CPUs and GPUs up to either the AMD Radeon RX 7600 or. Nvidia RTX 4060 TI. Finally, let's look at what Aus brought to the table. Mostly it was a lot of Vivo books in a wide range of configurations with Intel, AMD and Q Qualcomm processors in 14 and 16 inch sizes and a mix of plastic or plastic and metal. Bodies. What's available will vary by region, but if you want a mid-range AIPC from ASU, you'll have plenty of options this year. However, the most interesting consumer laptop announcement of these is the Zenbook A14, a 14-inch OLED cobbler plus PC that weighs less than 1 kg and runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon X processor. The body is made of the company's aluminum alloy, which is a metal with a smooth finish of ceramics. On the ROG side, Asus is essentially refreshing its main lines, the Zephyrus, strix and strict scar, with new processors, graphics and cooling, as well as updated lighting. Strix and Strict Scar will have 16 and 18-inch sizes, will have NextGen Intel C. GPUs in Nvidia GPUs and better cooling. In fact, everything has better cooling. The Zephyrus will come in 14-inch and 16-inch models and will be the copilot plus PCs running the latest AMD chips with Nvidia graphics. Then there's the return of the company's gaming tablet PC, the Flow Z13. It's completely redesigned, built around an AMD Strix Halo chip and a 13.4-inch 2.5k touchscreen. It is joined by a new Thunderbolt XG mobile external GPU with NextGen Nvidia graphics. Topping it all off is the Intel-based gaming desktop designed and built by Republic of Gamers, the G700.
