The Sapphire Chase reserve* was Updated Earlier this week and now includes a number of new annual loans and other features, including Apple Plus and Apple Music, worth $ 250 a year (ending June 22, 2027). Chase also increased the annual fee of the card.
Now it costs 795 USD annually, so you have to make more legs to get enough card value to cover the costs. This probably means that the average credit card user doesn't even want to consider this as an option. What is fair.
In my opinion, you should not buy dozens of loans, sign up for a few free subscriptions, only flights and books with books when your points increase, or feel like you have to buy Peloton to make sure you get enough value to justify your annual card. New loans and features sound great on paper, but for me, they only mean more work.
There are some important changes to card prizes, too. There is a greater offer for welcome and new rewards, and, less exciting, Cheis changes as the card points. But we'll get to that.
I am sure that some travel experts and credit card affinities will not agree and can easily get a lot of value from this card, but for credit card owners like me, who would rather have more automated, rational experience, just not worth an extra effort.
Here's all new with the Chase Sapphir reserve.
What does the new sapphire reserve look like?
Chase changed the awards to the card and how much it is worth when it is time to redeem.
Compared new and old prizes
New rewards | Old rewards |
---|---|
8x points for all trips reserved through a chase trip | 10x Hotel Reservation Points and Rental Cars through Traveling After Chasing |
4x points on flights and hotels reserved directly | 5x points on flights reserved through a chase |
3x points of eating | 3x points for all other trips |
1x point for everything else | 1x point for everything else |
These changes are good. The dining rewards look like a reckless card, and it's something I was surprised by I didn't see the card initially. Also, you should not always book through Chase Travel opens up more opportunities for travel and earnings.
The map includes a greater welcome offer:
- 100,000 bonus points and 500 USD Chase Travel℠ Credit to Spend 5,000 USD in the first three months of opening the account.
However, Cheis also changes the value of the prizes you earn with your new program for boosting points.
Formerly you could redeem your trip to a chase with a bonus value of 1.5 cents per point. Now, you will earn 2 cents per point, but only with rotating reinforced ransom flights and hotels. And, if you redeem your points for any dirty flight or hotel, they will only be worth 1 cent. You can still transfer your points with a 1: 1 ratio to Chase travel passengers.
This is clearly less flexibly than the previous card award program and is likely to cause card owners to miss the value they would provide otherwise. What if there are no increased flights or hotels when and where are you looking to travel?
Either you will have to wait or have less than your trip covered. Or, you can transfer your points where you could be worth more – but again, it takes more work than simply redeeming through the Publisher of Card Publisher for a small bonus, as it was before. Chase Sapphire Preferred® card* now uses the program for reinforcement.
New annual loans
The card also receives several new annual credits:
- 500 USD devices ℠ Credit. Editing is a new collection of Chase of over 1,100 hotels. You get $ 250 from January to June, and the other $ 250 from July to December.
- 300 USD for eating credit. Again, divide the half – $ 150 for January to June, and the other $ 150 for July to December.
- Credit 300 $ stubhub. $ 150 for January to June, $ 150 for July to December. Ends December 31, 2027.
- Apple Plus and Apple Music membershipworth $ 250 a year. Ends June 22, 2027.
- Credit from $ 120. You receive $ 10 monthly loans for a Peloton membership statement by December 31, 2027, for a maximum of $ 120 per year. Plus, you will earn 10x prizes for Peloton equipment.
These are the new loans; There are also many others. You can see all of the The chase page. The publisher says the card offers more than $ 2,700 in value, but you will really have to work to achieve it.
For those who spend 75,000 US Card travel in the calendar year, you will unlock a $ 500 tourist loan status, plus A-list status, IHG Diamond Elite status and $ 250 in a Chase store. It's a big spending threshold that only the most beautiful traveler will probably be able to reach, and does not look like a big return to the investment.
And a larger fee
Lastly, the card now costs $ 245 more than he did a month ago. The annual fee for Chase Sapphir is now at $ 795, one of the highest in the market. While the credits offered can exceed the card price, you will need to do the job to use everything you have to offer.
It means buying and using Peloton, checking the Point Stimulation Program, ordering Doordash, using Lyft and taking advantage of new eating credit and two trips for travel, and continuing. It is a very homework. If you do not use enough additional perks, you will probably be on the hook at least part of its annual fee.
Do you need to get this card?
In short, I think there are people who will find this card worth it, especially those with higher than average travel budgets (and maybe some kind of assistant to help them take care of everything), but for the average passenger or credit card owner, they will probably leave value to the table and be stuck with a high annual fee.
There are only so many offered here, which is great, but the change in the way you value points, as much as an extra job, as a card owner, you need to make it a year to make the $ 795 fee on the card, in fact, it doesn't seem to be. But again, I probably see the credit cards a little differently from most card experts. I like the light route, the one that guarantees value without any financial corrosion or work outside my usual routine.
So I will happily adhere to my preferred sapphire, which offers less, but only costs $ 95 each year.
I use it for my eating and travel expenses, I buy my points for trips home through Chase Travel and use my annual credit statement for a $ 50 hotel.
There may not be countless annual loans, memberships and subscriptions, but I have to do extra work – and I definitely don't have to be overcome – to realize its value against how much it costs me a year.
