Boise State swept the Mount West Conference with a perfect 7-0 record and went 12-1 overall on the season behind an outstanding effort by running back Ashton Genty. The Heisman Trophy runner-up has rushed for 2,497 yards this season, the fourth-most in college football history. Boise State's only blemish was a narrow 37-24 loss en route to No. 1 Oregon in September. The Broncos were the top-seeded team from Group 5 and secured the No. 3 seed in the College Football Playoff.
Next up for Boise State is a meeting in the desert with No. 6 Penn State. The Nittany Lions finished second in the Big Ten behind Oregon with an 8-1 record and are 12-2 overall. They are coming off an impressive first-round playoff performance in which they dismantled No. 11 SMU by 38-10. Despite being the lower seed, Penn State is an 11-point favorite against Boise State.
