“Dallas” star Patrick Duffy he has great memories of getting boozy before and after filming the show.
During a recent episode of Duffy's “Step By Step” co-star, Staci Keanan and Christine Lakin's podcast, “Keanan and Lakin Give You Deja Vu,” the actor gave a rare interview and admitted that the “Dallas” actor would bring out a bottle of champagne before filming.
“When we first started working, every morning when we were working together on set, we'd get a call time, usually, you know, call time at seven, six o'clock. I'd go in at MGM (Larry Hagman's) room. We were opening a bottle of champagne,” said Duffy.

The 80s star shared that the actors didn't just drink before the show.

“That was my working day with Hagman for 13 years. That was in the 1980s.”
“We could judge when the show was about to wrap up for the day, how it was going, what the last two shots were going to be, what the setups were. When we knew it was the right time, we would catch the prop guy's eye…and miraculously a styrofoam cup would appear.
“We had a little tequila before we wrapped,” he said.

Duffy and Hagman play “Dallas” together. The series was on the air for 14 seasons from 1978 to 1991. The two played brothers, Bobby (Duffy) and JR Ewing (Hagman). The cast also featured Jim Davis, Barbara Bel Geddes and Linda Gray.

In the podcast, Duffy admitted that Hagman was a lot like his soulmate and was often the instigator when it came to drinking.
“When we read the script for 'Dallas', we all met for the first time. None of the actors had ever met the other actors on the show,” said Duffy.

“We walked into the room, 'Hi, how are you? Hi, how are you?' Then Haggy came in, full of cows, a leather coat, a big hat, leather bags over his shoulder, and inside the cow bags were bottles of champagne.
“I would never drink after that first glass. Haggy would go on, and as the day went on, he would go through three or four bottles of champagne, ” he continued.
“We all sat down and drank champagne before we started reading the pilots of 'Dallas' to get to know each other,” said Duffy and explained that it was “the beginning of a relationship.”

This was also the beginning of a lifelong friendship between Hagman and Duffy.

He said he “went home that day after the whole process and I told my wife, 'I think I met my best friend today.' That was Hagman. We were best friends from then until the day he died.
“That was my career day with Hagman for 13 years,” Duffy said. “That was in the 80s.”

Hagman was the only “Dallas” star to appear in all 357 episodes of the original series. He went on to reprise his role as JR Ewing in the spin-off series, “Knots Landing.”

Hagman died in November 2012 at the age of 81 after complications from acute myeloid leukemia.
