Delhi Police took a creative and humorous approach with a party-themed advisory targeting drunk drivers and troublemakers on New Year's Eve. Their post on X warned against misbehavior, in a sarcastic tone.
“Delhi Police Wishes Hooligans Happy New Year 2025! We're having a cell block party,” the post announced. “Who needs a countdown when you can count the days until your release” added the headline.
Acts like “DJ Buckle Up”, “DJ Safety First” and the band “Defensive Drivers” followed acts like “DJ Buckle Up”, “DJ Safety First” and “Defensive Drivers” after the Delhi Police added a humorous twist to their advocacy by describing the “starter performer” as a breathalyzer to catch drunk drivers. The consultation also included an “elite lounge for all,” offering a cold cell bar and seating area with hot beats.
They creatively highlighted transport options in cinematography managed by “SUVs with special red and blue beacons” and speed cameras. Adding to the sarcasm, the post said, “If you see someone wanting a party, call 112 and let the good times roll,” with the location being “the nearest police station.”
Following Delhi Police's lead, Assam and Kolkata Police also posted similar messages discouraging drunken driving. The Kolkata Police shared a party-themed banner that promised a “special performance by DJ traffic cops in Kolkata.” Their message humorously stated, “Free entry for unlicensed drivers, drunk drivers, traffic violators, helmetless bicyclists and other qualified lawbreakers. Time and Place: Kolkata Police Area. Do not try to be our guests.
Assam Police encouraged people to “ring in the New Year safely” by sharing fun quotes inspired by Bollywood movie titles. These included, “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge Road Drunk Driver Nahi!”, “Andas Apna Ana Lekin Safety Sabki Sabki” and “Dil Chahta Hai But The Law Is Not. Drive calmly. “
Meanwhile, in a unique move, the Noida police announced plans to organize cabs to ensure drunken drivers get home safely. Help desks at malls, pubs and restaurants have been stationed to prevent inebriated people from driving cars or bikes, while police have arranged to hire cabs at night, reports said.
300 police personnel will be deployed across all floors of the popular destination Garden Galleria Mall. In addition, it is reported that provisions have been made to park around 7000 vehicles.
