Democratic lawmakers were conspicuously silent after the sentencing President-elect Donald Trump although he has spoken about the cases against him, as Washington prepares for the trifecta of Republicans in Congress.
Trump was sentenced on Friday after being found guilty on 34 counts related to false business records in May.
The the incoming president was convicted a conditional discharge, which means he will not receive any jail time, fines or probation. The ruling also preserves Trump's ability to appeal the ruling.
After Trump was found guilty in a criminal court in May, members of the Democratic Congress expressed many opinions on social media, but only after the verdict on Friday, which comes just days before sworn in on January 20.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., in May, wrote in a post on X's, formerly Twitter, that “the council spoke and delivered a decision carefully. Responsible leadership it requires that the judgment be respected,” said Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York said “no one is above the law.”
However, Democrats appeared neutral on Friday's ruling, which left Trump unpunished.
One Democratic congressman issued a statement after the conditional release, saying “our justice system is unfair.”

“There is a two-tiered justice system in this country, and Donald Trump sits in a chair where he walks into the White House without spending a single day in jail or being put on probation after being found guilty. guilty of 34 felonies. Republicans, on the other hand, were more vocal after the verdict.
“I have no respect for the process used in New York. I find the motive of the judge and the prosecutor dripping with politics,” Sen. Lindsey Graham, RS.C., said in a statement. “This is a sad day for America.”

Trump, before the verdict, said he would appeal the decision.

Trump applied for the emergency request to the Supreme Court on Wednesday in an attempt to block his January 10 sentence, but the high court ultimately rejected his emergency appeal to block his sentence.
