Denzel Washington becomes a pastor as the Hollywood actor believes you 'can't talk' about religion in the industry


Denzel Washington received his minister's degree as the 69-year-old actor takes on a new role in life.

Washington was baptized by Archbishop Christopher Bryant at the Kelly Temple in New York City on Saturday.

“It took a while, but I'm finally here … If (God) can do this for me, there's nothing he can't do for me,” Washington said, according to Bryant. “The sky is literally the limit.”

Bryant shared the photos of the moment Washington gave his life to Christ in a Facebook post.

“We celebrate the induction of Minister Denzel Washington into the priesthood, as he received his ministerial license at the Church of God in Christ today, at a truly inspiring time,” the post read.

“He's dressed like that because, in the same service, he was baptized in water,” Bryant added. “The baptism and confirmation took place at the Historic Kelly Temple in NYC, a place close to his heart. Denzel Washington attended this church as a child and testified to being filled with the Holy Spirit after visiting another church with actor Robert Townsend in the 80s.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to a representative in Washington for additional comment.

“Denzel Washington's latest commitment to faith and service is truly inspiring,” Bryant added. share a Facebook post. “His baptism and permission to preach is the pinnacle of a life of faith.”

Washington recently admitted that “you can't talk” about religion in the industry.

“When you see me, you see the best I can do with what my lord and savior has given me,” the “Gladiator II” star wrote. Esquire. “I'm not afraid.”

“I don't care what anybody thinks. You see, talking about the fear part – you can't say that and win the Oscars. You can't say that and celebrate. You can't say so in this town,” Washington added.

“I'm free now. It's not talked about in this town. It's not talked about. It's not talked about. It's not fashionable. It's not glamorous. But that doesn't mean people in Hollywood don't believe. There's no anyway, what does that mean to me it means a street called hollywood boulevard.

However, the Academy award winning actor not sure how many actors believe in God.

“It's not like we all meet somewhere and talk about what we believe. So, I don't know how many actors have faith. I didn't do a survey. I would find out How's that? I mean, there's no Church Actor. I've ever been to.”

Washington got his breakthrough role in the medical drama “St. Elsewhere” in 1982. He received many nominations for his work in the show and finally managed to break the film.

Washington is known for movies like “Fences,” “Training Day,” “The Book of Eli,” “Cry Freedom” and “Malcom X.”
