Katie Drumond: Yes, available for the public, in contrast to Doge, although the statements that Musk and even President Trump have made, that this is a group of transparent people doing this maximum. We really don't know much about what they are doing, what they are looking for and the changes they are doing, lack of journalists like you and many of your wired colleagues and other news organizations that have that information and publish it. Now, I want to back up a bit because at the center of all of this is the concept of cheating, wasting and financial abuse. That's what Elon Musk has repeatedly claimed to be popular and spread between government agencies that there was fraudulent spending, excessive waste occurred. There is the abuse of financial power and financial agencies towards these agencies. Now, from what you have reported in the past few months and in your role, how is that valid requirement to start?
Vittoria Elliott: There was a report from the Government responsibility office including 2018 to 2022, and that found that there were actually more than $ 200 billion of waste, fraud or abuse. Therefore, it is like, it is not what is created, but in the context of the federal budget worth $ 7 trillion, it is not something to break the bank. I don't think anyone, the Democratic Party or the Republic, Doge fans, will argue that, Hey is a problem that we need to solve. It is a very valuable thing. But one of the auditors that I talked about basically said Doge could consider the current recommendations from IGS. They can review the existing investigations. They can choose that job if they are really dedicated to this because there are really systems, and actually reports on this. But from what the auditers I said, they said that it didn't seem to be what Doge was doing. And one of the other things they say is that many auditors will probably be happy to help them, to give advice. They are very happy to work with them, they will be happy to bring young talents into their teams to make the audit system stronger. But Doge is really silent, it seems that they don't really care about it.
Katie Drumond: Right. Now, talking about Doge and the auditors that you have talked to this story, they certainly have no words to talk about how Doge is going on about their work. Let us know a little more about their impression of DOGE and their comments on what is happening under the auspices of this idea that Musk and Doge are basically auditing the federal government. What do the auditors actually think about that?
Vittoria Elliott: Yes, so to give some contexts, first of all, a common audit, related to five different steps, so there are five steps to audit. One is where you plan, you sit down, you say, “This is what we are watching, this is the type of information we will need to follow.” Who are you arranging the map of the parties involved, who will have to interview, because many times they are going into programs or systems that may not be fully understood. Therefore, it has almost a little ethnic minority. You have to go in, you have to interview people, you must be the same, “What is your job? What is this connected to? What does this mean in your system?” You must do that basic understanding of the program or agency. After that, you do practical work, that is, you go out, you talk to people. For example, in the case of storms, they really sent the auditor, I believe, come to Puerto Rico to see what is happening. You go into the systems, you make people on the ground. When you have done that, they arrange all this information together into a report, they will make this analysis. They talk to the agencies, they say that, “Hey, these are the issues we find. You have the opportunity to fix these things. These are our recommendations.” And then they sent that to the agencies, to the National Assembly, and then they were monitored. They can return and like, “Hey, we have proposed this. You have fixed this problem?” There is a level of responsibility to try to overcome that. Therefore, there are very clear knowledge in the government about the best practice of this, and all these people do that. It takes six to 18 months.
