Donald Tusk announces military training plans for all men in Poland

There is currently work to make all men in Poland undergo military training, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said.

In a speech to the Polish parliament, Tusk said the government aims to give full details in the coming months.

Efforts are being made to “prepare a large -scale military training for every adult man in Poland,” he told Sejm.

“We will try to have a model ready by the end of this year so that every adult man in Poland is trained in the event of war so that this reserve is comparable and adequate with potential threats.”

Tusk said the Ukrainian army has 800,000 soldiers, while Russia has about 1.3 million and it wants to increase the size of the Polish army, including reservists, to 500,000 out of about 200,000 now.

“We are talking about the need to have an army of half a million in Poland, including reservists,” he said.

“It seems that if we organize things wisely and I am constantly talking to the Minister of Defense, we will have to use several courses. This means reservists, but also intensive training to make those who do not enter the army fully targeted and competent soldiers during the conflict,” he added.

Tusk said women could also undergo military training, but “War is still a greater degree of men's area.”

Poland already plans to spend 4.7% of its economic defense production this year, the highest part of NATO Alliance.

Tusk told parliament that costs should be increased to 5% of GDP.

Earlier, President Duda proposed a change in the Constitution to make defense costs at a level of 4% of the required GDP

The Prime Minister also said he supported Poland's withdrawal from the Ottawa Convention, which prohibits the use of anti -sonsnelling mines, and is also possible by the Dublin Convention, which prohibits the use of clusters.
