Elon Musk is questioning whether the United States should “liberate the people of Great Britain from their tyrannical government” after attacking top British lawmakers.
In recent days, the tech billionaire and key adviser to US President-elect Donald Trump has been sharing his grievances with the British government on social media, leading to a war of words between the Tesla CEO and a British government official.
In a series of posts on social media platform X – which Musk owns – the tech mogul slammed Britain's Labor government, criticizing its handling of historic child abuse scandals.
Musk on Friday accused British Protection Secretary Jess Phillips of being a “rape genocide apologist” before publishing a series of posts vocation Prime Minister Keir Starmer faces a prison sentence over his prosecution of child-grooming gangs and other criminals targeting children.
Musk's comments came after Phillips rejected calls in connection with the government's investigation into child sexual abuse in the town of Oldham. Before entering politics, Starmer served as the UK's Director of Public Prosecutions, leading the Crown Prosecution Service during the country's child rape gang scandal.
When CNBC contacted spokesmen for Starmer and Phillips, they could not immediately be reached for comment. UK Health Secretary Wes Streeting described Musk's weekend attack on Phillips as a “disgraceful slander”.
“Keir Starmer and Jess Phillips, who have faced completely misjudged criticism, have done more in their professional lives than most people will ever do to lock up pedophiles, rapists, wife beaters and all the other scoundrels in our country. society,” he said in an interview with broadcasters BBC.
Musk's criticism of the British government over the weekend culminated in a survey in which he presented the concept of “liberation of the British people” to the platform's users.
