Transgender women will be forbidden to play in women's football teams in England after Supreme Court ruling in Great Britain Last month, the sports managing body said on Thursday.
The Football Association (FA) said that it decided to change their rules that allowed transgender athletes play in women's football teams if they have reduced testosterone levels. Scottish Football Association made a similar decision last week.
The Supreme Court in Great Britain issued a ruling two weeks ago, which defined a woman for anti -discrimination purposes as a biologically born someone. The head of the Equality and Human Rights Committee said after the ruling that transgender women would be excluded from women's toilets, hospital departments and sports teams.
While the rule was checked by some feminist groups, they were condemned by Trans-Rights groups, which stated that it would have a wide and harmful impact on everyday life.
Fa said that his policy consisted in the fact that sport was available to as many people as possible, but would make changes if there were changes in the law, learning or “grassroots football”.
“We understand that it will be difficult for people who simply want to play the game they love in the sex, thanks to which they identify, and we contact with registered transgender women who are currently playing to explain the changes and how they can still be involved in the game,” FA said in a statement.
It was not clear how many players would affect the policy that would enter into force on June 1.
