global Exchange traded funds industry With a record $1.4 trillion in inflows through late December, it's ending its best year yet, bringing total assets to $14 trillion, according to Matthew Bartolini, head of US SPDR research at State Street Global Advisors.

Another driver is those ETFs that are considered more “tactical” and allow you to position yourself on both sides of the trade. These ETFs are the top four performers in 2024, as VettaFi has risen between 428% and more than 178%, outpacing the S&P 500's 26% gain through Monday.
