On The Tesla Cybertruck hits the streets in December 2023and since then it has made its way everywhere from city streets to Fortnite and Rocket League. But the road wasn't always smooth for the sharp-cornered Cybertruck; Tesla has so far issued seven recalls for the stainless steel pickup truck.
Tesla is sitting on top of the list when it comes to total recalls in 2024, with 5.1 million cars compared to 4.3 million for No. 2 Ford. The futuristic-looking Cybertruck is one of Tesla's most expensive vehicles, with prices ranging from about $80,000 to $102,000, depending on equipment. The price can go up even more, based on add-ons like Full Self-Driving mode, which costs $8,000 (and isn't fully autonomous, despite its name).
Although Tesla has not released any official sales figures, Forbes estimates that 28,250 Cybertrucks have been sold as of October 2024. Tesla did not respond to a request for comment.
Here is every recall issued for the Tesla Cybertruck so far, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.

Incorrect font size of warning lights
Date of recall: January 30, 2024
Affected vehicles: 2,193,869
Component: Electrical system
This one wasn't just for the Tesla Cybertruck. Affected vehicles included the 2012-23 Tesla Model S, 2016-24 Model X, 2017-23 Model Y and the 2024 Cybertruck. NHTSA found that the font size on the instrument panel for brake, parking and ABS warnings was too small, making it difficult for the driver to read.
To fix the problem, Tesla issued a free over-the-air update, preventing owners from having to take their Teslas to dealers for an official repair.
Unwanted acceleration from trapped pedal
Date of recall: April 17, 2024
Affected vehicles: 3,878
Component: Vehicle speed control
By far the largest Cybertruck recall, this affected Cybertrucks manufactured between November 13, 2023 and April 4, 2024. NHTSA the report said that the accelerator pedal on some Tesla Cybertrucks can become detached and become trapped by the interior trim, causing the vehicle to accelerate uncontrollably. Drivers could stop the unwanted acceleration by pressing and holding the brake pedal, which cuts power to the vehicle's electric motors.
Tesla owners had to bring their Cybertrucks into the dealership, where technicians repaired or replaced the accelerator pedal assembly for free. According to the NHTSA reportthe problem was caused by residual lubricant accidentally introduced during the manufacturing process that would cause the pad to fall off the pedal assembly, causing it to jam. Once fixed, the pedal was no longer at risk of sticking.

The front windshield wiper may fail
Date of recall: June 19, 2024
Affected vehicles: 11,688
Component: Visibility
According to Tesla and NHTSA, excessive electrical current was occasionally supplied to the windshield wiper motor controller through a faulty component. Excessive current it would eventually cause the engine to fail. Once the engine burns out, the windshield wiper will become inoperative until it is repaired.
The problem affected Tesla Cybertrucks produced between November 13, 2023 and June 6, 2024, totaling 11,688 units. To fix the problem, owners were encouraged to bring their Teslas to the dealership where the wiper motor was replaced with one without the component failure.

Improperly glued boot bed liner can come off
Date of recall: June 19, 2024
Affected vehicles: 12,150
Component: Structure
This recall was issued on the same day the windshield wipers were problematic. Tesla said the truck's cosmetic application, known as a sail application, was improperly installed on some Cybertrucks. The applications use adhesive to adhere to the truck frame, and some models had the adhesive placed incorrectly. The result is that the trim can loosen or even fall off over time, causing a road hazard for other drivers.
Cyber truck owners were asked to bring their trucks to the dealership to have the problem resolved. The repair involved replacing the missing cut pieces, using an adhesion promoter to strengthen the existing adhesion, and using pressure sensitive tape to hold the piece down. The affected trucks were manufactured from November 13, 2023 to May 26, 2024.
The image from the rear camera may not be displayed
Date of recall: September 26, 2024
Affected vehicles: 27,185
Component: Back Prevention
The federal motor vehicle safety standard states that the rearview camera must display an image within 2 seconds after the car is put into reverse. Under certain conditions, the vehicle system may not complete the shutdown process before it is expected to restart. This causes a delay that can prevent the camera from displaying anything longer than 2 seconds, which violates federal rules.
Similar to the faulty font size recall, Tesla was able to fix this with a free over-the-air update that prevented owners from having to return to the dealership for repairs. Affected cyber trucks include those built between November 13, 2023 and September 14, 2024.
Inverter failure can cause loss of drive power
Date of recall: November 5, 2024
Affected vehicles: 2,431
Component: Electrical system
This was the second Tesla recall affecting the Cybertruck electrical system. This one was caused by faulty metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors, otherwise known as MOSFETs and common in modern vehicles. A small number of Cybertrucks had defective versions of these transistors in the drive inverter, which could cause the inverter to fail. The failure caused the trucks to stop producing torque and thus simply stop moving. NHTSA's investigation noted that there were no warning signs prior to the failure, so the failure could have occurred at any time.
The fix requires Tesla Cybertruck owners to go to a dealership where the inverter is replaced free of charge. This recall is fairly new, so owners have not yet been officially notified by Tesla. The date of notice of ownership is planned for the first week of January 2025. The affected trucks were manufactured between November 6, 2023 and July 30, 2024.
Tire pressure warning light problem
Date of recall: December 17, 2024
Affected vehicles: 694,304
Component: Tires
It's Tesla reminiscing nearly 700,000 vehicles across 16 different car models due to a problem with its tire pressure monitoring system. The recall applies to the 2024 Cybertruck and the 2017 to 2025 Model 3 and the 2020 to 2025 Model Y. according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The tire pressure warning light may not stay on, meaning drivers may not know their tire pressure is low. It can increase the risk of an accident. Tesla is releasing a free over-the-air software update to help fix the problem. Owners of affected cars will receive notification letters in the mail starting in mid-February 2025.
