At least 15 people were killed and 10 injured in the crushing of the New Delhi railway station, according to Indian media.
Eyewitnesses told BBC Hindi that the “huge crowd” has gathered at the station, from where many people travel to and from the Hindu religious festival, Kumbh Mela.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said his thoughts were “with all those who have lost their loved ones” in a post of X.
Authorities said the situation is now under control.
Dr. Ritu Saksena, Deputy Medical Chief of the Hospital Lok Nayak in New Delhi, told a news agency that he could confirm 15 deaths in his hospital.
Reuters news agency said three of the dead are children, while 10 are women.
Eyewitnesses, Ruby Devi, told BBC Hindi that the crowd is so great that he can't get inside the station, adding that there is a “stamp -like situation”.
Another person said the police were doing their job, “but the crowd became too much.”
Indian railways had initially rejected stamping stamps as a “hearing”, according to Reuters, but confirmed that an undisclosed number of people had been injured and taken to hospital.
Crush comes weeks after dozens were killed in the crush before the dawn of the Kumbh Mela festival in northern India, where tens of millions of Hindus had gathered to immerse themselves in sacred river waters on the most favorable day of a six-week festival.
