If your gaming plans this weekend somehow don't include stomping as Godzilla in , I don't know what to tell you. The Legendary Titan will be on the island for a limited time starting January 17th, and you might even get the chance to take control of it.
Developed by Epic Games, there is a small chance that a portal will appear on the map during Battle Royale matches. The first player to find it and jump into it will become a magnificent beast. Godzilla can use his roar ability to locate nearby players, use a stomp attack to send them flying, and tear through buildings with a heat ray.
Godzilla is also a de facto boss for other players. They can attack weak points, dealing additional damage, and break off collectible fragments that increase health and increase charges. Epic has also brought back the rail gun to the game to help players take down the colossal creature. It looks like the event will continue until the end of the current season on February 21st.
It wouldn't be Fortnite if there weren't a bunch it is related to the event. Players who have a current Battle Pass can unlock Godzilla's jet skin by completing quests. Gear will start glowing after you get your first kill in a match, and will get brighter after each kill – so it can actually punish you for playing too well if you become more visible to enemies.
The store will also be releasing a set of Kong and Mechagodzilla outfits. The latter glows when you attack enemy players. The presentation of this outfit in the event trailer is very funny, with Mechagodzilla stomping on buildings until the camera pulls back to reveal a miniature city. I sincerely hope this is part of a new emotion.
