A Bangalore resident recently took to social media to highlight what they say are “fraudulent” practices by Blinkit. The user shared the experience of ordering oil through the app as part of an advertised deal where an extra liter was free. However, upon delivery, the promised free one-litre oil is not included.
“Ordered 5L + 1L oil from Blinkit. 5L + 1L is advertised on the app for Rs 1072. The delivery agent only delivers 5 litres, the customer identified as “Adventurous-Parsnip3” wrote in a post shared on Reddit's Bengaluru community.
After filing a complaint, Blinkit responded by offering a Rs 100 coupon as compensation, which the customer described as significantly less than the value of the missing liter of oil.
“We lodged a complaint with Blinkit and asked them to give us the full order or take back the 5L. They now say 1072/6=Rs. 100 coupon against a 178 item because that's the maximum allowed by their policy,” the Reddit user explained.
Redditor “Adventurous-Parsnip3” also pointed out that Blinkit's internal policy does not bind its customers.
“Policy is an internal framework. The purpose of a policy is to set internal limits for resolution. As a consumer, we have nothing to do with the policy that Blinkit manages. We are not contractually bound for that,” they stated.
The user added, “They continue to claim that 1L of oil is free, so no value can be attributed to it,” while questioning the practice, “What is the relief against such scams?”
“From Blinkit Rs. 178 per unit sold for consumers who do not consider fraud and Rs. 78 to every customer they agree to,” the customer explained.
The Redditor revealed that they escalated the matter by contacting Blinkit's official support page on X (formerly Twitter), eventually issuing a refund of Rs 180.
“I posted it to @blinkitcares on Twitter (X). Now they have Rs. 178.
In a follow-up note, they added, “Recovered Rs 180 from Blinkit after raising issues with @BlinkitCares on X. Apparently they help me a lot as a 'one-time special pass' to get beyond the system. . Oh, I feel special today.”
