Furious protests as the eight -year -old rape victim dies

An eight -year -old child, who was raped in Bangladesh, died of his injuries on Thursday, beginning the fierce protests around the country.

The girl was raped while visiting her big sister's house in Magura for some time between the night of March 5 and the next morning, according to a case brought by her mother.

The 18-year-old husband of the older sister, along with her parents and brother, were arrested and kicking.

On Thursday night, after hearing news about the death of the child, an angry crowd descended into the house, where the incident was said to have happened, set it on fire.

The girl died around 13:00 local time (07:00 GMT) on Thursday after suffering three cardiac arrests, according to a statement by the government department for public relations (ISPR).

“Although doctors managed to stabilize the condition twice, the heart failed to restart after the third episode,” the statement said.

She spent six days in a critical condition at the Combined Military Hospital in the capital Dhaka after being admitted on March 8th.

“I thought my daughter would survive,” her mother said after the girl's death, according to local media. “If she had passed it, I would never have let her go anywhere again.”

The girl's body was taken back to Magura into an army helicopter who landed at the local stadium around 18:00 to fierce protests.

Ayub Ali, a manager of the Magura Sadar police station, said authorities were struggling to put the situation under control, according to the local newsletter The Daily Star.

Thousands of people gathered in the public square in Magura for the girl of Salah-E-Janaza, the Islamic funeral prayer before being laid at 7:30 pm.

The funeral of the absent was also held for the girl from the University of Dhaka, in the capital of the nation, followed by Protest March and the statements of the students.

Many protesters have requested the government to accelerate justice for victims of rape and laws for reforms related to the safety of women and children.

Protesters also called for more clarity around the legal definitions of what is a rape in Bangladesh, which they believe are currently ambiguous.

The rape and murder case is expected to begin within the next seven days, according to legal advisor Asif Nazrul.

“The DNA Sampling Collection has been completed, we hope to receive the report within the next five days,” Nazrul told a briefing at the press at the Secretariat on Thursday – adding that the statements have already been taken from 12 to 13 people.

“If we can start the process within seven days, our judges will be able to guarantee justice at the biggest speed,” he added.

The introduction of this law followed a series of cases of sexual abuse with a high profile, including the brutal attack of the band of a 37-year-old woman who was filmed and distributed on social media.

Less than a week after the young girl's rape in Magura, media reports emerged from at least three rapes of children about the same age in different parts of Bangladesh.

In some cases, the defendants were the victim's neighbors and others were close relatives.

According to statistics of the law and the Bangladesh Arbitration Center, 3 438 cases for rape of children in Bangladesh have been filed and there are many more victims of rape.

At least 539 of them are under six years of age and 933 are between seven and twelve.

Studies show that in most cases children are sexually abused or raped by people who know.
