An Indian entrepreneur and startup founder recently shared his thoughts on Reddit, advising “highly paid professionals” to consider moving abroad, arguing that while India is a great country, it may not be the best place to foster innovation.
In a post on the r/India subreddit, the user explained that he studied at a top engineering institute in India before pursuing a postgraduate degree in the USA. He returned to India in 2018 and worked in a major bank before starting his own company.
He noted that after securing significant funding, he was “successfully running it.” “I employ nearly 30 people paying an average salary of Rs 15 lakh,” shared the user.
“Get out of India! Now is the time! I say this as a well-heeled businessman!” He wrote in the title of his detailed article.
The entrepreneur outlined several reasons to advise those looking to build “something innovative” to consider relocating. He said innovation in India was stifled by “stupid” regulations.
“You have to be an officer, politician or celebrity to make things easy. Let me give you an example, there was a fraud case on our app and an FIR was filed. We solved the case and helped the police and the victim. He got his money back, we were accused. Meanwhile the police do not expect money from us,” he shared.
The user also pointed out the issue of regional disparities, stating that he experiences “regional hatred” from sabziwalas, autodrivers, cab drivers, restaurant staff and many others almost every week. He further criticized the “low work ethic” among Indians, saying that in India, “If you don't look rich or brandish – you're a piece of trash in this country.”
