World business leaders and diplomats will turn on Ottawa today in an attempt to chart the US tariff war.
The G7 Summit Partners for the next month in the B7 Conference Alberta in the national capital is the event.
This year's conference is dealing with trade uncertainty as US President Donald Trump has tried to abolish the global trade order at his rates.
Speakers in Ottawa today include US Ambassador to Canada Pete Hookstra and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, who was a Trump rival for Republican presidential nomination.
Participants are also expected to talk about the development of artificial intelligence with responsibility and the protection of critical minerals, two fields where Canada wants to increase its presence.
The head of the US Chamber of Commerce said before today's events that Trade G7 is the “foundation” of relations and has emphasized strong trade relations within the group.

Strong relations have been a repeated topic of talks between Prime Minister Mark Carney and his international counterparts after his recent election victory.
On Thursday, Carney spoke to Mexican President Claudia Shenbam, saying to the Prime Minister's Office that he “promoted strong trade relations between the two countries, based on the Mexico agreement of Canada's unit -based states, and strengthening its related economies against future shocks.”
His office said in a statement that the leaders have given senior officials the task of finding ways to deepen bilateral relations.
Carney also spoke with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Shov on Thursday, which discussed trade and international security.
