Greenland's elections produce upset as a party that promotes gradual independence from Denmark


Niuk, Greenland . Stated Trump's target – take control of the island one way or another.

Both demokraatit – Democrats – and second place, icing – “orientation point” – promotes independence from Denmark, but differs in the pace of change.

Four of the five major parties were looking for independence in the race, but they disagreed when and how.

Nalaraq is most aggressively about independence, while Demokraatit promotes a more moderate change.

A roasting victory for Demokraatit over parties that ruled the territory for many years indicates that many in Greenland care about what health care, education, cultural heritage and other social policy.

“I think this is a historical result in Greenland's political history,” said the leader of the Demokraatit Jens-Frederik Nielsen party after the results.

The Greenland newspaper Sermitsiaq wrote that Nielsen was surprised by his party's income, and the photos show that he was engaged in a huge smile and applauded at an election party.

The Danish broadcast corporation said Nielsen said his party would appeal to all other parties to agree on a future political rate on Greenland.

The unforeseen results came after huge crowds hit the election station in the NUK capital throughout the day, warmed by the sunny sky. Outraged voting officials closed the polls after Tuesday's scheduled Tuesday to make sure everyone was in the queue.
