Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sounded Thursday about Elon Musk's influence over the spending drama on Capitol Hill.
“If you're catching up: The Republican Party, taking orders from the richest man in the world, is about to shut down the government during the holidays, freeze our military pay and nutrition benefits. for low-income families in time for Christmas,” the 2016 presidential candidate wrote on X.
Clinton, a former first lady and senator, served in Congress from 2001 to 2009.
His comments came as Speaker of the House Mike Johnson released a new type of continuing resolution, or CR, to keep the government open beyond Friday night.

Musk appeared strongly opposed to the first spending deal that Johnson negotiated with Democrats, threatening to return the primary challenge to any Republican who voted.
Without an agreement to kick the federal budget deadline to March and continue spending in 2024 levels, the government will shut down some operations at midnight Saturday.
But House Democrats disagree the latest budget overstatement. And with a debt of $ 36 trillion and a deficit of $ 1.8 trillion in 2024, some conservatives are against the CR, which extends the budget period until March and keeps spending at full 2024 levels.
“The Musk-Johnson proposal is not serious, it's laughable. The extreme MAGA Republicans are driving us to shutdown the government,” said House Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

Rep. Richard Neal, D-Mass., indicated the Democratic leadership will whip its members to vote “no” on the deal.
Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., complained that the final deal was overshadowed by opposition from opponents, with comments from DOGE leaders Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy.
THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS DURING A PARTY GOVERNMENT
He said: “Everybody agreed, and then it was blown up by Elon Musk, who seems to have become the fourth branch of government. And that's the way it can't be. tolerated to continue.
“Democrats are going to try to figure out how we can save the nation from the damage that has just been pushed.”
Chants of “hell no” could be heard in the room where Democrats gathered after the text of the bill was released.

The latest continuing resolution would extend the federal budget by three months and freeze the debt ceiling for two years, something President-elect Trump has sought.
It comes after the first 1,500-page CR received opposition from the right over passenger policies and funding.

House lawmakers can vote on the new bill as soon as Thursday evening.
It is not immediately clear whether the new agreement will pass. Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, who led opposition to the original bill, also blasted the new deal.
“More debt. More government. Increase Credit Card $4 trillion by limiting ZERO spending and reducing fees. HARD NO,” Roy wrote on X.
