Stop-motion animation is a challenging enough opportunity for any studio, even Aardman, ever. Pioneering styles for decades At this point, but what happens when you decide to bring back a villain famous for being unable to utter a single word? He could hardly move any part of his face. And most of them entered by just standing there and blinking?
“That was really one of the most challenging aspects. of the whole movie,” Nick Park said recently. inverse decision-making Bring Back Feathers McGrawThe villain of wallace and gromitSecond TV appearance of Wrong pantsDecades later Revenge for most chickensCurrently streaming Around the world on Netflix– “At least Gromit has eyebrows that can move up. He was able to understand his thoughts more clearly. It's all about the simplicity of Feathers' movements, deliberate and slight movements. Look here, it's shiny. Really minimalist.”
As Park explains: wallace and gromit is no stranger to silent characters. Since the latter half of the pair is a dog that cannot speak, Gromit can still speak with surprising clarity. His ears can move. His eyes are similar to those of other human characters. He can move parts of his face and has full hands, feet, and even a neck for moving his body around and expressing himself. His emotions are clearly visible to the viewer. Feather, on the other hand, is a small, stylized penguin (sometimes disguised as a rooster). His eyes are like tiny beads. His whole body was shaped like a bottle. If the feather wants to use body language He has flippers which limit his own trajectory. Then he would move his entire body at once. And yet in both Wrong pants and Revenge for most chickensHe is still completely charming. Sometimes it looks scary. and still communicate perfectly with the audience
Despite more than three decades between his screen appearances, Park's technique (and now his Revenge for most chickens Co-director Merlin Crossingham) had previously made Feathers “feel” similar to the other characters in it. wallace and gromit still the same “We use camera movement, sound,” explains Crossingham. “He is a very cinematic character because we as filmmakers had to use a lot of tricks. To make him into the hero/villain you see and love to hate.”
The more things change, the more Some things will only become more of the same. But for wallace and gromitAnd in general, Aardman talks about the timelessness of the craftsmanship involved in this type of traditional hand animation. “When will you come back? Toy Story First released in the 90's by a studio like us. We were thinking, 'Oh boy, how much time do we have left?'” Park concluded. “But we continue. As long as you tell a good story Interesting story with attractive characters. It's just a technique.” All these years later, Feathers remains as charming as ever. And it still performs the same cinematic tricks.
