A company spent seven figures to acquire a huge tuna during an auction held at a Japanese fish market in Tokyo over the weekend.
The 600-pound tuna went to the Onodera Group, a Japanese company that operates sushi restaurants and businesses in other sectors, according to a translated press release.
The offer brought the company a staggering $1.3 million (¥207 million). Big blue tuna.

The seven-figure sale was part of the 2025 Toyosu market's first tuna auction, Onodera Group said in a press release. It was held on Sunday.

The National Tourism Organization of Japan has called Toyosu Market “the largest fish market in the world”. People sell tuna and other seafood as well as fruits and vegetables there.
Onodera's group said it has scored the first tuna five years in a row. According to the company's press release, it did so in 2018 as well.
Over the past 26 years, the market has only seen one New Year's tuna hit above $1.3 million this year. AFP reported. The price of this moon sold in 2019 was 333.6 million yen.

Onodera's Shinji Nagao said over the weekend, according to AFP. “The first tuna is something that is good for bringing wealth. Our wish is that people will eat this and have a wonderful year.”
