Israel has committed several air strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut, saying that it is aimed at producing drones of Hezbollah.
The attack on Thursday night, the eve of Aid al -Adha, one of the most important celebrations in Islam, followed the evacuation warnings for several buildings in the area where Hezbollah is based in the capital.
Israeli defense forces said they had identified the Hezbollah Department, which produces “thousands” underground drones funded by “Iranian terrorists”.
The attack has come, although in the last six months it has entered into force between Israel and the armed group.
Lebanon's Prime Minister said he “categorically condemns” strikes.
“I plan to represent a systematic and deliberate attack against our homeland, its security, stability and economy, especially on the eve of the holidays and the tourist season,” said Nawaf Salam in a publication of X.
Thousands fled on the packed streets in the densely populated area after the evacuation warning, causing traffic. Then smoke streams appeared in the sky.
Lebanese President Joseph Aun described the strikes as “a gross violation of an international agreement” until he noted that it had happened “on the eve of a sacred religious festival.”
Israeli military said the “widespread use” of Hezbollah's drones is central to its attacks on Israel, calling the activities “a gross violation of the understanding between Israel and Lebanon.”
There was no immediate comment from Hezbollah.
An hour before air strikes appeared, a spokesman for the Arab Israeli military, Avichai Adri, ordered residents living in Hatat, Haret Raik and Bor El-Baraine in the Dakhie region to evacuate.
“You are up to the infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah,” he said in a social media publication, which includes a map that identifies specific buildings.
Prior to the war in Israel-Gaza, Israel and Iran-backed Group Hezbolla, they joined more than a year of cross-border warfare, which ended in an intense Israeli bombing campaign and invading southern Lebanon.
The offensive died about 4,000 people in Lebanon – including many civilians – and led to the displacement of more than 1.2 million inhabitants.
