A number of countries have condemned the actions of the Israeli military after troops fired warning shots near a diplomatic delegation when visiting the occupied West Coast.
The Israeli military accused the group of deviating from an approved route and saying that warning shots were fired into the air “to distance them.” He said he “regrets the inconvenience caused.”
The incident did not report injury that had happened in the city of Jenin, where Israel has been fighting the armed Palestinian groups for years.
Many countries, some of which have had diplomats in the visit, have condemned Israel's actions – including Spain, Egypt, France, Turkey, Ireland and Italy.
Some participating nations have said they will call on Israeli ambassadors to report the incident, calling for Israel's investigations and explanations.
The Palestinian Administration (PA), which governs parts of the occupied West Coast, has accused the Israeli security forces of deliberately targeting a delegation to a “disgusting crime”.
It says that the group is there on an official visit with the Palestinian authorities to “monitor and evaluate the humanitarian situation and to document the ongoing violations committed by the (Israeli), occupying forces against the Palestinian people.”
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement that his troops had fired “warning shots” to ensure that the delegation did not enter a “area where they were not authorized to be” in Jenin.
It says that diplomats have “diverted from the approved route” and that he “regrets the inconvenience caused” by the incident.
IDF added that it would speak to representatives of the participating nations to update them as a result of an internal investigation into the incident.
A European diplomat said the group went to the area “to see the destruction” caused by months of Israeli operations.
Pa stated that dozens of countries were involved, including Egypt, Jordan, Spain, Turkey, France, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
The condemnation came from nations in Europe and the brighter Middle East, with special criticism saving the risk that was the life of diplomats.
Spain, Italy and France were among those who said they would summon their Israeli ambassadors to clarify what had happened while the EU foreign policy chief said that any threats to the life of diplomats were “unacceptable” and called responsible to be held accountable.
Ireland confirmed that two of their Ramala -based diplomats were among those in the group, and Taoisch (Irish Prime Minister) Michelle Martin said he would be “demanding answers from Israel about how it happened.”
Egypt said the shots fired in the group “violate all diplomatic norms” while Turkey said it was “another demonstration of Israel's systematic neglect of international law and human rights.”
Both nations called for an immediate investigation and explanation from Israel.
The Israeli military has been fighting armed Palestinian factions for several years. Hundreds of Palestinians and dozens of Israelis have been killed in a leap of violence on the west coast since the beginning of the Gaza war, caused by Hamas's deadly attack on South Israel on October 7, 2023.
Israel has built about 160 settlements that have lived about 700,000 Jews since it occupied the West Coast and East Jerusalem during the Middle East war in 1967.
The bigger part of the international community considers that the agreements are not illegal under international law – a position supported by an advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) last year – although Israel disputed this.
