Ivory Coast's president announced the departure of French troops in January




Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara said in a year-end speech that French troops would withdraw from the West African nation in January, making it the latest country to weaken military ties with the former colonial power. French troops have been forced out of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, where army-led governments hostile to the former colonial ruler have seized power in recent years.
