Las Vegas police said the Cybertruck had fuel containers in large fire extinguishers

Tesla Cybertruck that exploded in front of Trump International Hotel Las Vegaswhich killed one person and injured seven others, contained canisters of petrol and camping equipment, as well as large bottles of fire, according to authorities.

Sheriff of Las Vegas Kevin McMahill said during a press conference Wednesday that investigators know who rented the Cybertruck, which was found in Colorado, although they are not ready to identify that person without 100 percent certainty.

McMahill also said investigators were able to intercept the truck at Tesla charging stations. License plate readers in Las Vegas first spotted the car around 7:30 a.m., and McMahill said it was driving up and down Las Vegas Boulevard before entering the Trump hotel complex.

Within 15-20 seconds of reaching the hotel, the sheriff added, the car exploded.

During the press conference, the sheriff showed video of the bed of the truck, which showed it was filled with gasoline cans, camping fuel cans and a large fire extinguisher.

But the sheriff also pointed to the exterior of the truck and how it was completely intact after the explosion.

“The fact that this was a Cybertruck, it really mitigated the damage that happened inside the valet because most of the blast went up through the truck and out,” McMahill said. “In fact, if you look at the video, you will see that the front glass doors of the Trump hotel did not break and explode.”

Although the explosion did not damage the glass doors, seven people suffered minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital.

As for all the guests in the hotel, they were taken to another hotel while the investigation into the explosion continues.

As McMahill, Jeremy Schwartz, of The FBI acts as a special agent who is responsible for Las Vegas, will not identify the person inside the car, saying, “Our first goal is to ensure that we have the correct information of the subject involved in the incident.”

The second goal, Schwartz said, was to determine whether the explosion was an act of terrorism, which is being investigated by the joint terrorist task force.

The special representative said the task force was made up of law enforcement officers from the region.

“We don't do anything alone, and we wouldn't do anything alone without our partners making sure we're all locked in,” Schwartz said. “We've learned from past mistakes, and we won't do it again.”

The Cybertruck explosion was the second suspicious fatal incident in a major city since the beginning of 2025.

On Wednesday morning, a man later identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar, drove a truck into a crowd on the famous Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing more than a dozen people, and taking out many other accidents.

The truck that Din Jabbar was driving was rented from Turo's peer-to-peer rental company, just like the Cybertruck that caught fire in Las Vegas. Din Jabbar's rental car also wore an ISIS flag on its trailer hitch.

A Turo spokeswoman told Fox News Digital that the company does not believe the person responsible for the Las Vegas and New Orleans attacks has a criminal background that would have marked them as a security threat.

“We are saddened by the violence in New Orleans and Las Vegas, and our prayers go out to the victims and families,” the spokesman said. “We remain committed to maintaining the highest standards in risk management, thanks to our world-class technologies for reliability and safety and teams that include experts with first-hand legal experience.”

Schwartz said the FBI believes the Las Vegas shooting was an isolated incident.

“We do not believe that there is a group of people who support this or help this, and we do not believe that there is another danger to the community now,” he said, assuring the public that within hours the next few. days, they will do everything they can to get to the bottom of the event.

McMahill says he doesn't know if the two are connected but he can't rule it out. He added that the Cybertruck does not have an ISIS flag like the truck in New Orleans, but every part is being checked.

Initial research to date has included feedback from Tesla CEO Elon Muskwhich McMahill said provided more information about how the vehicle was locked after it exploded due to the force of the explosion.

The millionaire kept fans updated on the Cybertruck blast on his social media platform X.

“We have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb taken from the bed of the rented Cybertruck and is not related to the vehicle itself. All telemetry of the vehicle was positive at the time of the explosion,” Musk wrote. in one post.

“The evil knuckleheads chose the wrong vehicle for the terrorist attack. The Cybertruck really had an explosion and it led to an explosion,” he said in one place. “Not even the glass doors of the lobby were broken.”

President Biden also weighed in on the Las Vegas bombing.
