A new artificial intelligence startup is betting that HR departments will become the next major battleground for enterprise AI adoption, launching a dedicated search engine that aims to transform how companies manage their employees.
Unlimited AIwhich came out of stealth last year, today announced its release HRGPTa free AI-powered search engine that allows companies to query their internal HR data along with employment laws and regulations. The company also announced a $5 million strategic investment from an AI company Together with herbringing its total seed funding to $32 million.
“All HR departments will have AI representatives who manage different aspects across the HR stack,” said Willson Cross, co-founder and CEO of Borderless AI, in an exclusive interview with VentureBeat. “We're proud to be at the forefront of that.”
How HRGPT AI Borderless is changing workforce management
The Toronto-based startup is positioning itself to compete with established HR software providers such as A working day and ADP by focusing primarily on AI-powered solutions. Its platform already counts several multinational companies as customers, among them Dunlop Sporting Goodswhich uses the technology to manage employees on board across 17 global offices.
Unlike general purpose AI chatbots, HRGPT combines real-time web search with access to internal company data and specialized HR expertise. The system can perform tasks from creating employment agreements to tracking time off requests and managing international expense reimbursements.
“Unlike ChatGPT, we have real-time web monitoring. When a customer asks HRGPT a question, it scans the web for real-time search and citations,” Cross told VentureBeat. The platform also connects to PricewaterhouseCoopers for experience in employment law.

“For the next two or three years, it will be the businesses that are building and waking up to bring AI to their organizations,” he said. “HR is one that has many relevant use cases.”
The limitless AI approach reflects a broader trend of AI companies focusing on specific industries rather than trying to build general tools. Companies with a similar vertical focus include Harvey AI in legal technology and Sierra in customer service.
Building a billion-dollar HR tech company with AI at its core
The company's ambitious vision includes the automation of complex HR processes such as payment management and employee analysis. Cross pointed out that they aim to build a billion-dollar company with less than 50 employees by using AI extensively in their work.
However, AI faces endless challenges, including prioritizing the features that will build next amid strong consumer demand. The company must also maintain accuracy and compliance in its automated HR functions, especially for sensitive functions such as employment agreements and international payments.
The startup's success could indicate whether specialized AI tools will compete successfully against established enterprise software providers who are racing to add AI capabilities to their existing products. For now, early adopters seem convinced: Infinite AI reports that its AI agents are performing tasks hourly across its customer base.
