A suspect has appeared in court following an attack on a German Christmas market on Friday that killed five people and injured more than 200 others.
The suspect, a doctor from Saudi Arabia, has been identified as Taleb al-Abdulmohsen, who arrived in Germany in 2006. and was recognized as a refugee in 2016.
It comes as German authorities face a growing backlash after the suspected attacker used an emergency vehicle access lane to enter the market.
During his visit on Saturday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, ministers and regional political leaders were heckled by members of the public, some apparently outraged by what was criticized as a security lapse.
