EPAMore than 300,000 properties are free of power as a tropical storm, closer to the eastern coast of Australia, stabbing the region with heavy rain.
Storm Alfred has been downgraded from cyclical to tropical low, but local authorities have warned that the threat it represents is “not over.”
The violent winds have already removed trees and power lines, with the roads flooded in low areas when the storm approaches land. He predicted Alfred to hit the coast near Brisbane before moving in later on Saturday.
Tens of thousands of people have been told to evacuate from the storm path, while others are called to remain indoors.
Four million people in Queensland and North New South Wales are in the storm firing, with dozens of time warnings in both areas.
Emergency services say they work with energy companies after some residents have been told that they can be of power for days.
About 287,000 customers are experiencing interruptions in Southeast Queensland, according to Energy Provider Energex, while Essential Energy said more than 42,600 homes and businesses in New South Wales have experienced interruptions.
The people in Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, went to bed on Friday to encourage heavy winds and heavy rain.
They woke up on Saturday to learn that the cyclone was reduced and the city would escape from the worst of the time.
But the danger has not ended in other parts of Southeastern Queensland and northern New South Wales.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said that “the worst is yet to come” and along the Gold Coast, which has been penetrated from bad weather over the last few days, the conditions are still quite extreme.

As the storm approached the land, nearly 1,000 schools closed, public transport was stopped and airports were closed. Election operations have also been canceled.
Flights are not expected to resume the earliest on Sunday.
