TOKYO, Dec 26, 2024 – (JCN Newswire) – – Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (TYO:) (MHI), in collaboration with East Nippon Expressway Company Limited (NEXCO EAST), recently conducted a demonstration test of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) on the Joban Expressway, managed by NEXCO, during the night road closure. . Tests have confirmed the effectiveness of using UAVs to conduct patrols on highways instead of conventional patrol cars.
The test demonstration was conducted on the 10.2 km section of the Joban Expressway between Okuma and Namie junction using a small type single-rotor UAV under development by MHI's Commercial Aviation Systems division. The test confirmed that the UAV can fly automatically at night at a speed of 50 to 60 km/h stably on the highway, and its on-board camera can detect traffic conditions and objects falling on the highway at night. in the future, tests to demonstrate AI-based automation of falling objects and the simultaneous operation of multiple UAVs are planned. The details of this UAV method demonstration test are given below.
Moving forward, MHI will continue to contribute to the realization of a safe, secure, and free society by solving various UAV-related issues.
