Millions of people gather in northern India for a huge six-week Hindu festival

The Maha Kumbh Mela, or Great Jar Festival, is held every 12 years in the northern city of Prayagraj because Hindus believe that bathing in sacred rivers brings salvation from the cycle of birth and death and forgiveness of sins. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said 35 million people took part this week.
