About one -third of the American adults say they used it General tool for AI ChatgptWhile one in five says they have never heard of it, therefore New research results from the Pew Research Center.
34% that say they used the Openai Gen AI tool include 58% of adults under 30, the largest share of any age group. ChatGP users' participation drops with age: 41% of those 30 to 49, 25% of those 50 to 64 and 10% of those 65 and older. There is also correlation with education; In adults with a degree or postgraduate studies, about half reported using the tool. Only 33% of those with some college and 18% of those with a high school degree or less said the same. (Disclosure: Zif Davis, a Center's parent company, filed a lawsuit against Openai in April, claiming to have violated Zif Davis' copyright in training and working with his AI systems.)
The use of ChatGPT and other Gen AI tools has only increased dramatically in the past few years. Chatgpt climbed to popularity at the end of 2022 and became the name of the household in several years. Pew's research brings it: the participation of American adults who say they used ChatGPT is almost double since July 2023. But ChatGPT is not the only tool of its kind. Other technology companies produced their own models of large languages, including Google's Gemini and target Lama.
Pew's research, a panel of 5,123 adults surveyed from February 24 to March 2, shows how people used these tools, which can perform various tasks from writing documents to responding similar to search results (though they may not be correct). 28% of adult employees reported for work tasks, 26% said they would use it to learn something new and 22% said they would use it for fun.
Other recent Pew results have found that many US workers had Doubts to use AI in their jobsand many were worried about the effect will have. Other research has found that even how AI has become more common in the workplace, it is not without social costs, such as colleagues and managers can judge those who admit to using AI.
Of course, not everyone uses these tools. PIU results show that 20% of adults have heard nothing about Chatgpt. That figure is highest in those over 65 years (33%) or with a high school degree or less (34%).
