In this edition of our arts24 music show, Jennifer Ben Braham talks to Nigerian singer-songwriter Keziah Jones as she releases her first record in a decade: “Alive and Kicking”. The album is an autobiographical journey from Lagos to London to Paris; A musical resume of his career spanning over 30 years. The “Bulfunk” singer's record includes two of her biggest hits, such as “Beautiful Emily,” as well as two originals. It was recorded at Femi Kuti's studio in Lagos, a symbolic decision for an artist who cites singer Kuti as one of his biggest inspirations. Kezia shares with us how she was one of the last people to interview the Afrobeat legend. He also talks about his love affair with France and a recent art exhibition at the Eric Dupont Gallery in Paris.
