A huge earthquake struck in Central Myanmar.
The magnitude-7.7 tremor was felt elsewhere, including in Thailand and southwestern China.
More than 1000 were killed and over 2000 were injured, although it is difficult to obtain accurate information.
Here's what we know so far.
Where does the earthquake strike?
The epicenter of the earthquake is located 16 km (10 miles) northwest of Myanmar's city sagar, the USGS geological survey (USGS) said.
This is also close to the second largest city of Myanmar, Mandalay, with a population of about 1.5 million people – and about 100 km (62 miles) north of the capital Negi Tau.
The first earthquake struck around 12:50 local time (06:20 GMT) on Friday, according to USGS. A second earthquake struck 12 minutes later, with a magnitude of 6.4.
The Quake epicenter was 18 km (11.1 miles) south of Myanmar's city sagar.
Which areas are affected?

Myanmar reports of roads in the capital in addition to the damage to buildings across the country.
Strong tremor were also felt elsewhere, including in Thailand and southwestern China.
About 100 construction workers have not been reported as six dead after an unfinished tall building collapsed hundreds of kilometers from the epicenter, in the Thai capital Bangkok, according to local authorities.
The rescue officials of the site said they had discovered at least 15 people alive, but very deep under the rubble, about 5 m to 10 m.
Video also showed a roof pool in Bangkok, spilling from the sides of a swinging building.
How deadly was it?
According to the military in the country, the death rate of the earthquake is now 1 002.
Many of the victims were in their second largest city of Mandalay, which is near the epicenter of the earthquake
There are separately 2376 people injured and 30 missing.
Rescue operations continue, with a rescue team in Mandalay saying that “digging people with bare hands”.
How difficult is it to understand what is happening in Myanmar?
It is difficult to get information from Myanmar, known as Burma.
Myanmar is ruled by Junta After a coup in 2021, making access to information problematic.
The state controls almost all local radio, television, print and online media. The use of the Internet is also limited.
Mobile lines in the affected areas are spots as the earthquake has hit, but tens of thousands also live without electricity, which makes it difficult for the BBC to communicate with humans on Earth.
Foreign journalists are also rarely allowed to enter officially because of Lack of freedom of printS
What causes earthquakes?
The Earth's crust is made up of separate bits called plates, which are nestled side by side.
These plates often try to move, but are prevented from friction up to adjoining.
But sometimes the pressure accumulates until a plate suddenly deviates, causing the surface to move.
They are measured in a scale called the scale of the magnitude of the moment (MW). This replaced the more famous Richter scale, now considered outdated and less accurate.
The number attributed to an earthquake is a combination of the distance that the line of the fault has moved and the force that has moved it.
Tremra of 2.5 or less usually cannot be felt, but can be detected by tools. Earthquakes up to five are felt and cause insignificant damage. The Myanmar Earthquake at 7.7 is classified as a basic and usually causes serious damage, as in this case.
Everything over 8.0 causes catastrophic damage and can completely destroy the communities in its center.

Is it safe to travel to Myanmar, Thailand or Laos?
The United Kingdom in the United Kingdom, the Community and Development Office (FCDO) has warned the possibility of several strong afters in places affected by the earthquake.
He advised people in the area or tourists who plan to travel to Myanmar., Thailand or LaosObserve local media and follow the advice of local authorities and tour operators.
FCDO has previously issued advice against all trips to parts of Myanmar and all, but significant trips to parts of Thailand and Laos.
Myanmar's security situation “may worsen in the short term and the military regime may introduce travel restrictions at any time” against the “increasingly” resulting “conflict, the announcement said.
FCDO's warning about parts of Thailand is “due to regular attacks in the provinces of the Malaysia border,” and his Laos advice is related to “periodic attacks on infrastructure and armed clashes with anti -government groups” in the province of Xaisomboun.
How is this compared to other major earthquakes?
This earthquake and its consequences were relatively shallow – about 10 km deep.
This means that the impact on the surface is probably more devastating than a deeper earthquake, with the buildings shaking much more difficult and more likely to collapse.
On December 26, 2004, One of the largest earthquakes ever registered, hit the coast of Indonesiatriggering tsunami, which swept entire communities around the Indian Ocean.
The 9.1 magnitude earthquake killed about 228,000.
The largest earthquake has been registered 9.5 so far and recorded in Chile in 1960.
